Scoring Criteria
- Appearance – Is the cookie appetizing to look at? Is it interesting? Is it designed well? Does it have any obvious problems, like burnt edges?
- Taste – Does it have a good blend of flavors? Would you eat another one?
- Texture – Is it appetizing to chew? Does it have the correct texture for that type of cookie?
- Creativity – Did the student try something different? Did they try different flavors or different appearance?
- Oral Presentation* – Did the student give you information about the story of the cookie, the recipe, or design choices? Did they speak confidently?
*NEW FOR 2024 – As all cookies will be judged equally regardless of grade, this is not weighted very highly. Still, it may be the tiebreaker between winners!
Cookie divisions will be awarded for Best Overall, Most Creative, and Best Tasting cookies. Gingerbread division will be awarded for Best Constructed, Cutest, and Most Creative gingerbread houses.
Contest Rules
- Each entry must consist of at least three cookies, baked in the same batch. Cookies entered in the Decorated and Sugar cookie divisions may be decorated differently.
- Students may only have one entry per division.
- Students may enter into multiple divisions.
- Sugar cookie entries may be decorated, but the flavor and texture of the cookie and icing is more prioritized than the decorations.
- Decorated entries may be any kind of cookie that is decorated. Creativity and appearance are more prioritized in the Decorated division, but taste and texture are still considerations.
- To be considered a Healthy entry, the student must use at least one “healthy” substitute for a traditional ingredient (ie. sugar-free chocolate, gluten-free, fruit, etc.)
- Gingerbread houses may be built using purchased kits or may be baked at home. They will not be eaten and will be judged on appearance and construction.
- Students may use a plate from home, but decorations on the plate itself will not be considered for judging.
