Sheep projects provide youth with opportunities to expand their knowledge of the sheep industry, production and more importantly, develop the life skills that are needed to be positive contributors to society. Through sheep projects youth will learn about selection and evaluation, nutrition and feeding, health and daily care, reproduction, marketing, and much more. Youth learn to accept responsibility, to value hard work, think critically, make decisions, and communicate.
Project Information
Description-The 4-H Sheep Project is a unique way of teaching important life skills to youth through the use of a project animal. Youth are the project; the animal is merely a tool to teach. By utilizing a project animal, youth are able to gain important life skills through hands-on learning and practice.
Eligibility-3rd-12th (3rd Graders are only eligible to show at the County Show)
Cost– $20.00 per head (covers the opportunity to show at the County, Region and State Sheep Shows)

Doug Berny
A native of South Texas, Doug grew up on a family owned and operated Dairy Farm and is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Animal Science. Doug has extensive experience in poultry, beef cattle management, communications, and coordinates the Livestock project groups and associated judging teams.
