4-H STEM Fun

STEM Fun offers a fun, hands-on exciting learning environment for students to learn about Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Participants get a hands-on opportunity to experience a vast array of sciences and principles that will leave them amazed.

Description – This class is an introduction to block-based coding for girls in second and third grade. Students will also learn about basic computer science. Making programming feel more accessible, welcoming, and exciting.

  • Meeting Time:  Saturday 11:00am – 12:30pm

Description – Girls will have hands-on projects that focus on the E (engineering) and T(technology) of STEM. Making STEM feel more accessible, welcoming, and exciting. Students will complete several engineer challenges and build tiny a robot to take home. Two dates – choose only one.

Description: Girls will have aeronautic themed hands-on projects as they explore STEM. Making STEM feel more accessible, welcoming, and exciting. Students will complete several engineer challenges as they learn about the science of flight.

The 2024 annual STEM Fun 1 Quiz Bowl will be held on May 21st. Please note the Quiz Bowl will start at 5:30p. Only students who complete both the fall and spring STEM Fun 1 classes are eligible to compete in the Quiz Bowl.

  • Meeting time:  Every other Tuesday at 6:30pm until 8:00pm
  • Location: Williamson County Extension – 4215 Long Lane, Franklin, TN 37064
  • Eligibility: 4th – 6th Graders
  • Cost: $60 per session

Description: This class is for students who have taken STEM Fun 1 or receive instructor approval to register. Students will perform more complex hands-on projects in the fields of biomedical engineering, human anatomy, product design, and astrophysics.

The annual STEM Fun 1 Quiz Bowl will be held in May. Only students who complete both the fall and spring STEM Fun 1 classes are eligible to compete in the Quiz Bowl.

Jennifer Stockdale

Jennifer Hartsell Stockdale

Jennifer Hartsell Stockdale, an attorney for over 20 years, also serves as a youth educator for Williamson County 4-H.  She has been involved in Tennessee 4-H for over three decades, first as a 4-H’er, then as a teen leader and adult volunteer, and now as one of our STEM program instructors. Jennifer teaches STEM Fun 1 and 2, Girls STEMPOWERment, and Crime Scene Investigation classes. She secures opportunities for her students to participate in nationwide collaborations with NASA, The National Girls Collaborative Project, and science museums. She is passionate about developing tomorrow’s great thinkers, leaders, and citizens.

Elvia Klym

Elvia Klym is passionate about facilitating STEM project-based learning to cultivate students to be creative problem solvers. Elvia grew-up in Nashville and has her bachelor’s degree in engineering from The University of Tennessee. She has worked as an engineer in several areas including manufacturing, pre-production operations, vehicle testing, corporate training, and lean engineering consulting. She is currently a 9-12 engineering and unmanned aerial systems teacher at a local high school. (One-Day Girls Xplore and Girl Code Class)
