Whether its your first time with robotics or a seasoned veteran, there are multiple opportunities the robotics classes offer youth through hands-on opportunities to build, program and test robots using Lego Spike Prime kits during each class meeting.

LEGO Missions students will be placed in teams to collaborate using their knowledge to build and program robots that will carry out specified missions. Using the LEGO Spike Prime kit, teams will compete against other teams with their robots. These experienced, secondary programming students will have the option to use block code programming or Python (text-based programming). Students are able to take this class repeatedly as it provides them with the opportunity to gain more experience programming. Basic programming knowledge is required prior to taking this class.

  • Meeting Time:  Weekly on Thursday 6:45pm until 8:00pm
  • Location: Williamson County Extension – 4215 Long Lane, Franklin, TN 37064
  • Eligibility: 6th – 9th Graders
  • Cost: $75
  • Class Schedule:
    • February 1, 15, 22 and 29
    • March 7 and 21
  • Pre-Requisite: Basic programming knowledge is required prior to taking this class.
  • Class Limit: 12 Students

Description: Introduction to LEGO Robotics and Programming students will be introduced to block- based programming language. Using the LEGO Spike Prime kit, this class will provide an overview of some foundational concepts of computer programming and robotics. Youth will have hands-on opportunities to program LEGO robots weekly. The Fall and Spring classes will cover the same content giving you the option to pick the term that best suits your schedule. Students are welcome to repeat this class until they feel ready to move into the LEGO Missions class.

LEGO Robotics Family class offers students an opportunity to work through a LEGO Robotics build with one of their parents. Using provided instructions, the pair will build and program the robot together. The LEGO builds introduce entry level robotics using block-based programming. This visual approach exposes the students to code without heavy emphasis on complex syntax. The classes hosts up to two students per one parent registered.

For participants 3rd grade and up. One parent is required to engage and participate in this class with their child.

  • Meeting Time: 5:00pm until 6:00pm
  • Location: Williamson County Extension – 4215 Long Lane, Franklin, TN 37064
  • Eligibility: 3rd–7th Grade
  • Cost: $75 per family (family is maximum of 2 kids and 2 adults)

Anne and Raphy Villas

Anne and Raphy Villas are passionate advocates for youth development and exploration. They have taught a variety of 4-H classes for the past 4 years. They empower students to build confidence and leadership skills through hands-on experiences in the classroom and in the great outdoors.
 
Anne’s experience has included Scout leadership, education, and operations for tech start-ups. Raphy brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm from being a “lifelong learner”.  His career began in web design and development then moved into developing technology, leading teams across various sectors, including start-ups, consulting, and government.
