Learn the skills and gain the knowledge to raise and care for sheep, swine, goats, beef, dairy, and poultry. Each species project varies in length, cost and commitment. Participants will gain knowledge of animal science, learn valuable life skills, and have the opportunity to bond with their family as they work together. Participants do not have to own and show animals to participate in learning about animal science through a variety of hands-on learning experiences and teams.
Project Information
Description-This project group is intended to help students become familiar with animal agriculture and production. Participants will have opportunities to learn about all aspects of animal science, veterinarian science, nutrition and husbandry. Students raising animal projects will learn about opportunities to complete in Central Region and TN State Livestock shows. Students do not need to own animals to participate in this project group. The livestock project group promotes and encourages participation in all general 4-H activities and contests including communication contests, participation in Honor Club, portfolio keeping and submissions and judging events and activities.
Eligibility-3rd-12th grade. 3rd grade participants are eligible to participate in county level activities and events. 4th-12th grade participants are eligible to participate in Region and State activities and our Jr. Livestock Expo with their market animals.

Doug Berny
A native of South Texas, Doug grew up on a family owned and operated Dairy Farm and is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Animal Science. Doug has extensive experience in poultry, beef cattle management, communications, and coordinates the Livestock project groups and associated judging teams.
